To Chromebook or not to Chromebook?

I was reading an article about the new Google Chromebooks

Six Reasons Why Chromebooks Are a Bad Idea - Technology Review

and i was curious if they worth the money for someone to spend.
I can easily access all of my cloud data through a tablet! Why would i need a new kind of computer for that?

My main concern is on developing ides! I mostly work with python. Google supports python intensively the past few years and it would make no sense to release an operating system that developers could not make some coding on their favorite programming language.
Specially, with Google App Engine that i guess is one of the main features of the new Chromebook OS there should be at least some rumor about an online ide for developing Chrome OS apps.
I am really curious about that, and this is the only drawback for me. This is actually the only reason for not buying it yet.

    i read the article too and i think it is really innovating! however, it still has some issues such as the fact that it is not compatible with "i-stuff" (i-pod, iphone,etc)... BUT the most important thing is that it introduces a whole new way of "computing"!
    so the real question is: will computer users adopt easily??

    Well, i totally agree with you, but as you already said the "i-stuff" are really important nowadays and google needs to consider that very seriously.
    About the new way of computing, google once again is really innovative and the first to release something that BIG!
    Microsoft wanted to do something similar, but yet they haven't released anything similar..

    Useless technology at all...
    Why someone has to buy a 500$ chromebook that has the same ''functions'' and programms with a simple net/note book??
    they will soon make and mozillabook or explorerbook??? :)

    I have never thought before of an explorebook but it seems so funny :P
    Even microsoft wouldn't use it!!
    I totally understand your concern, but when a company like google says "you have to buy and use that", it doesn't seem like you have much of a choice.
    And even if you have now, will they let you have in 5 years?
    By that, i mean that now you can have a netbook as you already said. But when google co-operates with amazon in such a huge task, what are the chances of letting themselves lose money in order to keep many choices for the costumers?
