How big is Greece's debt?

Εικόνα
My blog is mainly focused on new technologies and stuff like. The truth is, i wanted to speak only about those things because my expertise lies on those stuff, but it seems unavoidable talking about the situation that my country is into. Greece is a country that has a great history and great children that makes her proud everyday... Now, as we speak it is not that a proud nation because some stole that from us. A simple picture of what others believe of our country says a lot. How we, Greek people, can survive from such an embarrassment? I have friends all over the world that they do not ask about our culture, history or not even about our beautiful islands.. They only ask about what they watch at the news. So the main question is, "How big is Greece's debt?". It was not always like that... We can still let our voice being heard. Our country, our nation has much more to offer.. Many Greek scientists around the world make humanity proud every day! Thats is what rea

WWDC 2011 Session Videos - Development Videos

I was those new videos of the Development videos that Apple launched just yesterday. I have to admit that once again they did great job on guiding developers. New features, new ideas.. The feature of clouding computing is just HERE! I am still curious.. Apple offers a solid solution that seems cheap ( if and only if you have all the apple devices )... Google and amazon on the other hand offer something more expensive per month, but seems like a more attractive solution.. Watch the videos and let me know.... Twitter predicts future of stocks

A couple of days ago a really good friend of mine, told me to check this article: BBC News - Twitter predicts future of stocks As I was reading the article, I was amazed from the usage of social media to predict the future of stock market! Most of us, already know the story about using twitter to track the flu around the globe. There is also another example of tracking and predicting the success of a movie at the box office! Predicting how the money is going to flow, is another story! Is something much more difficult, far more complicated and something that everyone would die for! I am not yet sure how this method works, or if it works at all... What can I be sure of, is that there are going to be many researchers that are going to run after this idea! Just track twitter feeds and see the fluctuations of the market... It would be amazing like a dream. Whoever discovers it, is going to be the next billionaire!

To Chromebook or not to Chromebook?

I was reading an article about the new Google Chromebooks Six Reasons Why Chromebooks Are a Bad Idea - Technology Review and i was curious if they worth the money for someone to spend. I can easily access all of my cloud data through a tablet! Why would i need a new kind of computer for that? My main concern is on developing ides! I mostly work with python. Google supports python intensively the past few years and it would make no sense to release an operating system that developers could not make some coding on their favorite programming language. Specially, with Google App Engine that i guess is one of the main features of the new Chromebook OS there should be at least some rumor about an online ide for developing Chrome OS apps. I am really curious about that, and this is the only drawback for me. This is actually the only reason for not buying it yet.

TEDx AlAin: Growing Robots in the Desert by Nikolaos Mavridis

As I have already promised you, I am presenting here the talk that dr Nickolaos Mavridis gave to TedxAlAin at May 2011. Let me first introduce the speaker. I was really glad to have worked in person with him, so I can tell many many stories. He is a great visionaire, a top researcher and inspiring professor. His main field is on social and cognitive robotics, as you can discover yourselves by watching the video. Dr Nickolas has some serious work to show around the world. His vision is about robots that are going to live together with humans, in a new ecosystem that technology and nature is going to develop over the next decades. My words are may not that convincing, so see for yourselves the presentation! Once again, congratulations Mr Mavridis! YouTube - TEDx AlAin: Growing Robots in the Desert by Nikolaos Mavridis

Create your own Chatbot at no time and no cost!

I have already mentioned ALICE project, but now as you can see below there is an open source project hosted at google code. The whole idea is again about AIML ( artificial intelligence markup language ). For those who do not know it, it is a description language about a conversation flow. It is really useful, easy and by using that even the non-expert can create cool chatbots applications in no time! Of course it has some limitations, but it is a very good place for a beginning! Or at least it was for me... aiml-en-us-foundation-alice - Latest release of free ALICE AIML set - Google Project Hosting

God, human, robots... Evolution!

Today's main idea is about thinking. Thought according to some philosophers is the greatest accomplishment humanity ever succeeded. According to some others ( more religious driven ), thinking was given to humans by gods to resemble his power over the whole creation. Humans, having walked the difficult path of understanding their world, and with the confidence that there are no more important things to discover out there, try to create a new life form. New servants to serve them... Humanoids, bots, virtual agents, machines... Do we really need them? To be honest, it is my job to create stuff like that.. But late in the night, i have seconds thoughts.. It is morally right to do something like that? Are we allowed to play god? This is not a one man discussion..

Chatbots.org - Chatbots, virtual agents, virtual assistant, chat bots, conversational agents, chatterbots

Chatbots.org is one of the most respective island in the web, according to chatbots. I have been there many many times and each i discover something new! My main field and research is focused on the new ideas regarding agents being able to talk and interact with people. Chatbots are the most close technology to that, and there are many good implementations.. As always, more on that matter i am going to post soon enough! Stay connected ;) Chatbots.org - Chatbots, virtual agents, virtual assistant, chat bots, conversational agents, chatterbots list. Directory

Concerns on Google App Engine

I was trying to test some features on the google appengine and my main concern was to upload some large pictures and save them ofcourse in my database. I used the high replication datastore and everything is indeed really fast and stable. My main problem was that i was able to upload a picture ( i tested until the size of 7 Mbytes ) but i could not save it altogether. The new appengine 1.4 lets apps to handle a request until the size of 32Mbytes but it is a bit "stupid" not being to save it as a piece event a blobbstore! Please help... SMOB - Semantic MicrOBlogging

One of the things that i enjoyed at most today at the w3c conference was the Smob project! Their idea was really really cool.. I hope to explore more on their project ( it is open-source hopefully! ) and collaborate if by any chance! :P Good job guys!!!!!!! SMOB - Semantic MicrOBlogging

A platform for managing campaigns over Social Media at W3C conference!

My team and I were invited in the W3C workshop about the Federated Social Web. Today was our presentation about creating campaigns in realtime web using technologies like activity streams over xmpp and http, and other similar technologies focused on realtime communication. The paper was accepted with great and welcoming comments and was placed in the main talk. A copy of the presentation you'll find later here as soon as it is uploaded! The whole conference was full of great inspirational work.. It only makes you wonder what the future keeps for us. As always, stay tuned for more info!

Reply on social agents discussion!

A few more comments on my latest blog post. There are many opened issues left unanswered, so first of all I would to point out that there is a whole community both of technical and theoretical background working on the subject. What is more, I had the chance to work with some exceptional personalities on the area so I know that mine is just an opinion and not a state of the art approach. Semantic web, mark up languages , logic programming languages.. What is the best approach for AI? No clue?? Well, I think I have some so stay tuned cause the latest news of my research is about to be published!

Simple ideas on social Agents!

I have been wondering for a long long time about robots and social agents and their future! The truth is that still I get no answer. For that reason, I am totally convinced that open standards is the key for creating the new generation of smart agents being able to wander around the internet fulfilling tasks important for us.  The most significant approaches are the ones focusing one data description. Of course something like could not be a complete solution otherwise a discussion like this would be pointless.  This topic is about to get into more detail, but before that I need a bit more research and of course I would like to hear some feedback or some of your thoughts!
